White Paper: Recommendations for Destination Development
The ATM Executive Roundtable, produced by the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council, brought together OMRAN Group and Visit Oman alongside key stakeholders and experts to examine emerging challenges and opportunities in destination development. In the report we share insights drawn from the discussions, combined with international best practices. Themes are presented without ranking, highlighting resilient tourism systems.
Stakeholders and experts shared diverse perspectives on a variety of topics, including long-term vision, cultural authenticity, regulatory streamlining, youth employment, and product diversification. Discussions highlighted the importance of measurable benchmarks, community involvement to preserve cultural authenticity, streamlined regulations for private sector investment, education and vocational training for youth employment, and product diversification to address climate risks.
Framing resilience as a pathway to economic security emerged as a key message. By adopting these practices, destinations can grow sustainably while protecting cultural and environmental integrity.
As Minister Edmund Bartlett of Jamaica stated, “Resilient systems protect jobs, secure livelihoods, and attract long-term investment.”
